Shuffle tournament summary

How shuffle tournaments work and when to use them.

Shuffle tournaments are a tournament type where players compete individually, and teams are re-balanced automatically between rounds based on rating.

When to use shuffle

  • You don’t have fixed teams (mixes, PUGs, community events).
  • You want “fairer” matches round-to-round as ratings update.

What to expect

  • Players, not teams, are the primary unit: standings and ratings are per-player.
  • Teams are re-generated between rounds based on current ratings.
  • New players start at a neutral rating (and stabilize after a few games).

Operator tips

  • Keep the player pool size consistent (late joins/leaves can make balancing harder).
  • Use a short match format (BO1) for smoother rotations during events.
